New Technology can improve your sex life

15:03 August 12th, 2015

Designer vagina’s, we’ve all heard of them.  If we’ve ever watched porn we’ve seen one. However, new laser technology can do for the inside of your vagina what surgery can do for the outside.

In times when estrogen dips, breast feeding, menopause, steroid therapy, cancer treatment the vagina can become dry, itchy, non-responsive, unnaturally tight. Other more sever symptoms can occur.  Many of these symptoms can be treated via relatively inexpensive and non-invasive therapy.

Pros And Cons Of Sex Vs Exercise

5:23 April 22nd, 2015

Does sex stimulate you more – and is it better for you – than exercising at the gym?

We know it can be great exercise, it gets our hearts racing, makes our knees go weak, leaves us with aching muscles, gives us that healthy glow and even occasions sudden cardiac death in some circumstances.

Great sex is going to stimulate you more and make you feel better than a gym session ever could. But does that mean we should forgo the gym for a shag? Probably not, but none-the-less I’d take the sex myself.

Which is better for you? The units of exercise required to minimise the risk of obesity, heart disease, cancer, and osteoporosis and so have been measured i

New study reveals that sexual attitudes in Australia are changing

Dr Michelle Mars blogging for Sex.Scoop

Last year I did some research for Adult Match Maker and this is what we found…

Adult Match Maker, Australia’s largest adult dating site, is pleased to announce the results of its inaugural sex survey.

The results of a recent large-scale survey of Australian’s sexual habits and orientations have revealed that we are not as straight as we might think we are.

Over 7600 people completed the AMM survey. Twenty five per cent of the respondents identified as bi-sexual, 0.4% of women identified as lesbian, 1.6% of men identified as gay, and a further 5% said they are unsure about their current sexual orientation.

The lesbian and gay figures are in line with Australian population estimates however, the percentage that identify as bi-sexual or unsure far exceeds previous estimates. Australian research undertaken in 2002 (La Trobe University) and 2008 (Victorian Government) estimates the bisexual population at less the 2%.

The research also revealed that kinky sex is a popular fantasy with 60% of respondents including it as a fantasy and post Fifty Shades of Grey, it’s hardly surprising that BDSM is popular, with 30% of respondents including it in their list of sexual fantasies.

For heterosexual men looking for sexual partners there may be more competition than ever before. Thirty six per cent of women identified as bi-sexual and the heterosexual women who took part in the survey are 50% more likely than men to fantasize about women and 50% more likely to act on their fantasies.

Men have a wider range of sexual fantasies scoring higher in all categories and are more likely to be drawn to hardcore activities such as golden showers and porn. Women on the other hand are more likely to fantasize about sex toys, tantric sex and their partners. Thirty per cent of both women and men like the idea of strap-on sex.

According to Dr Mars, “Australians are more sexually curious and sexually adventurous than ever before”.

AdultMatchMaker.com.au is Australia’s largest online adult dating site with singles & couples registered! They teamed up with Dr Mars to create this survey because they wanted to peek under the covers of the average Aussie and find out what made their toes tingle.

Dr Michelle Mars is a health researcher and sexologist. She believes we need to be more light-hearted and pleasure focused in our sexual thinking. When we seriously consider sex we tend to think about health and disease rather than considering the links between sex health, mindfulness and quality of life. It’s time we started exploring and understanding our sexuality and the ways it can help us to live happier healthier lives.

There is a moment of absolute ecstasy, your mind goes blank or yellow or blue, it goes on for minutes, you feel it in your heart or your belly or your genitals. It can happen during sex, or after or sometimes even before. You connect with your partner and you begin to feel an orgasm flow through your entire body, through your, spine, into your heart, your belly, your vagina, the tip of your penis. Read more »

‘The Perfect Vagina’ documentary rides again

12:49 May 14th, 2010

The vagina. We are all fascinated by it but we don’t really like to think about much less talk about the ins and outs of our ladies front bottoms. Anything that is forbidden tends to fascinate so perhaps that’s why this week we got to see a documentary that explores that very thing for the second time.  Well actually it’s about the vulva, that is, the bits on the outside that we can see. But that’s just splitting hairs. If there are any hairs there that is. Read more »

What is sex.scoop and who am I

15:46 July 20th, 2009

The Scoop.Sex Channel

Hi and Welcome to sex.scoop. I am Dr Michelle Mars and I am here because I love talking about that ever controversial subject SEX. I’m  excited to be here and looking forward to blogging about the ever unfolding sexual landscape.

Sex is everywhere, we see it in text and images all the time but we hardly ever scratch below the surface. I am here to do a little scratching with you. Sex is not stupid! Just because it can be fun and frivolous it doesn’t mean we can’t think about it deeply and that’s what I am going to do here.

In this blog I am going to look at all things sexual and sexy. I am going to look at the art and style of sex as well as politics and policy around topical issues. I’m  interested in identity, fashion, culture, books and much more.
People are starting to take sex more seriously. We want to know more about sex.

If there is one thing that spending years as an academic working in a University taught me it’s that there is a lot more to know about achieving well being, pleasure and respect when it comes to sex. People have been fascinated by the subject for centuries. The amount information we have access to is endless. You could spend your whole life reading about sex and there would still be more to find out. I think sex is endlessly fascinating!

Michelle is a sexologist. She founded Sassi-Inc in December 2008 to enlighten and enrich the Kiwi sexual experience. “I say, lets talk about sex. Let’s get it out there on the table and let’s start having much more fun”.

Sex Education and Risk

Sex Education and Risk

By Dr Michelle Mars

Teenagers usually make good choices, and that is a hard pill for parents to swallow sometimes.  Although you can’t choose the road your teenager will take, you can give them good sign posts and information so they have pleasant and successful experiences.

Risk is a normal and necessary part of growing up, we want young adults to take risks, but we want those risks to be grounded in truth and fact, not fear of failure and silence. In New Zealand our binge drinking culture tends to encourage risky sexual practices, and as we have begun to talk  to our young people about drinking in moderation, now its time to talk about sex.
